ALAN GRIEVE
SUPERNATURE

My practice concentrates on notions of local identity and the importance of oral culture in a contemporary context. I continually look for new ways to present narratives.

Creating a venue for cultural tourism under a recognisable banner such as National Park Visitor Centre alludes in some way to the aims of Cupar Arts Festival. The intimate scale of the venue will reflect the nature of the work on show. The installation mimicking a Visitor Centre, and the use of traditional visual tools - interpretation boards, display cases, brochures - constructs a comfortable platform for the audience to engage with potentially challenging artworks based on the flora and fauna of Fife.

Truffles found in West Fife Woodland!
A raptor runs amok at racing pigeon event!
Sea eagle visits 24hour Asda!
A dog home discovered in derelict factory. Alcoholic owner tells all!
A seagull’s account of life around an award winning East Neuk fish bar.

Unlikely stories mostly?

Find these and more on the colourful interpretation boards at Supernature, a visitor-centre celebrating Fife’s newly established National Park status. Centre staff are happy to help with any queries. Please feel free to touch the stuffed animals, stolen eggs and raptor pellets.

I am, of course, the visitor centre staff member, there to answer any queries!

During the Festival, I have an ongoing project titled The 9 Trades of Dundee, with various displays throughout Dundee and Fife:
