ANTON BEAVER

I work in many different disciplines and mediums. My practice involves responding to a variety of contexts and situations, usually working within a given or found structural context, making an intervention / art work which draws attention to the inherent nature, purpose and potential of that structure. The resulting artwork aims to provide a heightened awareness of our surroundings and our relationship to it.

My work mainly exists within the practice of temporary public art projects and non- gallery venues where the work exists in tandem to that space.

I also create studio work that explores the potential of the found object to inform us on our complex human nature and how we interact with our environment.

For this years festival I will be creating Gravity Spins a site-specific installation in the main upper space of the silo.

The work aims to give the viewer a sense of an outer and inner body experience through the presentation and confrontation of a giant slowly revolving sphere. Playing on the exploration of space in the environment of this colossal structure, the work reminds us of the relationship we have to the planet we inhabit.

Carousel inhabits the space on the lower level, and will consist of 16 large monitors placed around the outside circular walls which create a continually revolving barcode. This is a comment on the cyclical nature of food production and distribution, with an increasing number of UK farms now producing sugar from sugar beet due to an up-turn in the global cost of sugar.

Barcode Beet will be an outdoor projection onto the corrugated wall of the loading bay next to the silo. This again will take its inspiration from the consumerist symbol of the barcode and will be part of the celebrations to close the festival.

Box of spuds represents gallery-based work that uses the found object to reveal similarities in the human and the natural psyche.

I also produce work collaboratively with Grain Corporation - see project details via the link below.
