THE ANGEL OF CALLANGE
A video-work showing a recreation of Vincenzo Lunardi's historic hot-air balloon flight between Edinburgh and Cupar in 1785.
"With the assistance of the people who came crouding (sic) about me, the balloon...was conveyed in triumph to Cupar Town Hall. "
- Vincenzo Lunardi, 1785
This project is awarded the first Cupar Arts & Heritage Project Visual Arts Award, selected this year by Dalziel & Scullion.
REPRINTING HENS JUST SPELLS BIRD...
The individual letters of the signage from the firm of J & G Innes Ltd. Printers & Publishers, former business at 20 Crossgate, are rearranged to create a new configuration of words.
The work is a reference to the building's long history of connection to the print industry. A building with a history of words, language and communication, the word-play of the anagram is a reference to the process of type-setting - particularly the process of typesetting by hand and the reuse of the individual metal letters to create a plate for a print run.
