DALZIEL + SCULLION
GENUS
The Dalziel + Scullion studio creates artworks in photography, video, sound and sculpture that explore new artistic languages around the subject of ecology. The work strives to visualise aspects of our shared environment from alternative perspectives and to re-establish and re-evaluate our engagement with the non-human species we live alongside.
Genus was the culmination of Dalziel + Scullion’s Fellowship with the National Media Museum, during which hundreds of images from the museum's archive were collected to create this work. An endless stream of images explores the breadth and complexity of human settlements on earth in this large-scale video-projection, which will be shown in the main hall of the old St Columba's School building on Millgate. This is the first time that Genus has been shown in Scotland, and as a single screen projection.
Dalziel + Scullion have been selected for important national and international exhibitions, including the British Art Show, the Venice Biennale and Artes Mundi Prize, they have been awarded numerous awards and prizes including the Scottish Arts Council’s prestigious Creative Scotland Award.
