FEEDERS
JONATHAN BAXTER, PETER HAINING

This installation takes the inequality in the distribution of food globally, as its subject matter. Jonathan Baxter's series of dysfunctional bird feeders surround a video work by Peter Haining. Baxter's sculptures amplify the tensional relationship between nature
and culture with a particular focus on enticement and entrapment. Haining's video "Feeders" (23mins 41s) brings together three elements - a pair of garden bird feeders and the animals which visit them during an
uninterrupted single camera shot, the sound of a communal meal, and extracts from a BBC radio programme: Feeding the World -  which discusses the pending global food crisis. Haining's work is a commentary upon the extravagance that is to be found in our society, one that encourages wild animals to be fed artificially and quite unnecessarily while so many people in the Third World exist without proper daily
nourishment. Jonathan Baxter is a MFA graduate from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design. Peter Haining lives in Dundee. Haining's ongoing project, The Attic Archive, contains work from over 30 years' practice. Curated by Jenny Brownrigg.
