FIONA MCDONALD
TREES
Children learn to make sense of their environment by naming what they see. In adult life too, we continually seek to know and create names. This piece is designed to make people look at the trees, in order to be reminded of their existence and the fact that they have a name. The lettering is simple, childlike, and flat in order to create a two-dimensional picture-book feel to the scene, particularly when viewed from a distance.
Beauty and comfort can often be found in things that have a simplistic yet constant presence in our lives, and it is hoped that once the lettering has been removed, people might still glance over at the trees to where the lettering was, thus the temporary and simple nature of the work will encourage continued thought in peoples' minds.
