Despite the rapid speed of evolution in industry, production and technology, human beings have evolved relatively little. Our basic needs and the requirements for survival remain desperately simple, our lives on the other hand seem to become increasingly complex. Through installation and object based work I am interested in exploring these contradictions.
The silo, built in the early 1960’s for the storage of beet sugar became uneconomic with the globalisation of food production. Subsequently used for grain storage it again became uneconomic and was abandoned in the mid 1990’s.
I am working on two projects in and concerning the use and redundancy of the silo, one, an installation within the silo itself and the other an interaction concerning the production and consumption of bread.
I am also planning a number of interventions on the periphery of Cupar.
