VALERIE NORRIS & ANDREA SAYERS

Valerie Norris is based in Dundee. Her drawing and sculptural practice evolves from chance associations and the accumulation of images, objects and texts from charity shops, popular culture, music, nature, hobbies, literature, and the everyday.

Andrea Sayers, also based in Dundee, worked as a baker for five years to support her studio practice. After a residency at Cove Park, the baking and art practice crossed over. The exploration of social and vernacular history, discovered through personal narratives and storytelling, is a strong element of her work.

Their collaborative site-specific, mixed-media installation at local artisan bakers, Fisher & Donaldson in Cupar's Crossgate, is a direct way of interacting with local history and the community.

Fisher & Donaldson began in Cupar in 1919, and is still a family-run business. A much-loved familiar institution in both Fife and Dundee, it has a fine history and reputation. The windows of Fisher & Donaldson are always a talking point.

The work will aim to draw attention to this aspect of the history and character of the town, in a highly visible location.

Two related works will be shown at The Warehouse on Kirk Wynd, and at the YMCA, Bonnygate.
