OWEN DAILY
INSPIRARE

inspire*

1 fill (someone) with the urge or ability to do or feel something, esp. to do something creative.
2 breathe in (air); inhale

Dundee-based artist, Owen Daily continues his exploration of art's ability to change and inspire us, in this new film specially created for the 2009 Cupar Arts Festival.

INSPIRARE is a 24-hour loop in two shop windows in Cupar's Lady Wynd. Captured using slow-motion, high- definition video cameras, this twin-projection piece functions like a "moving painting" in its meditative stillness.

Moved by the use of light and dark in Dutch portraiture, this film examines the gaps and silences, and creates apparent connections between its two unrelated subjects.

The artist hopes this simple reflection on the fundamentals of life in breath and shared experience will renew a sense of wonder at the creative process and its transformative power for individuals and communities.

*ORIGIN Middle English enspire, from the Old French inspirer, from Latin inspirare 'breathe or blow into', from in - 'into' + spirare 'breathe'. The word was originally used of a divine or supernatural being, in the sense (impart a truth or idea to someone.)

Particular thanks to Myres Newlands, Property & Letting Company for the use of their premises.
