SINEAD BRACKEN
My current work investigates interactions in urban environments. My intention is to make the viewer more curious of those around them.
In my most recent work, “X54”, a full scale plan of a coach features short texts, describing people I observed on a bus journey.
My proposal for Cupar Arts Festival is a continuation of this, while moving on to a larger area. Instead of recording a situation in a more contained space such as the bus, I shall be dealing with a number of spaces in a busy area that is in flux throughout the working day.
My proposal consists of two parts, drawing and performance. The drawing part consists of interior plans of public spaces in an area of Cupar, e.g. Crossgate.
In the image on the left, I documented an initial account of this shop and those inside. I plan to do this with a number of shops in this area, creating a map of moments, traces of people together that are long forgotten.
The performance part has the same intentions but with a more immediate approach. In the high street and hopefully indoors I will record public movement by writing down short texts regarding those observed onto labels and stick them onto the ground where I encountered them. Throughout the performance the labels will build up and overlap, creating a mass of information.
