MYSTERIOUS STEVE
My artwork is usually derived from phantasmagorical split-second thoughts or ideas, developed compulsively and often fusing realism – in the form of place or scenario – with surrealist thoughts which could be influenced by experience, culture or anything really.
The idea for the 2009 Cupar Arts Festival began after being stopped at the traffic lights on St. Catherine Street. Staring admiringly at the Angel War Memorial with thoughts of Manga/Anime fresh in my head, the inevitable amalgamation took place!
Initial developments included a helium filled speech bubble containing perhaps a ‘thought for the day’ or historical reference, which would be floated above the various statues in Cupar throughout the course of the festival.
It is now more likely to be a blank speech bubble allowing the viewer to interact with the situation.
A small edition of comics books involving Cupar’s statues will also be made.
As research has continued I have felt it appropriate to work under the pseudonym ‘Mysterious Steve’.
